April 6, 2008 – The Nalanda Forums have been revamped and better integrated with the user profiles in teh database. Please visit the Forum.

July 4, 2007 – The past Nalandains Directory is up and running now, including the search function. We have renamed it as the Nalanda Alumni Directory. You can access the Nalanda Alumni once you login to the Nalanda web site. Once you login you will see two new links on the left hand side menu.

October 13, 2006The ADSL Connection Setup at school has been completed by Sumith Gamage. However, since the Wireless equipment for Phase 2 is still with TRC (Telecommunication Regulatory Authority), the ADSL Connection was hooked to the Principal's PC, and an email account was setup for him.

A preliminary Site Survey visit will be done by Sudharsha Wijesinghe, and others on Monday - October 16th, for the Phase 3 Wireless Network.

nalanda.sch.lk Project FundAugust 25, 2006 – The equipment for Phase 2 was purchased in HK at a total cost of US$220.28 and has been handed over to the shipping agents. SLT has completed the wiring at the Exchange and has informed us to test the ADSL connection.

August 13, 2006 A wired-wireless hybrid network is decided for Phase 2. The required equipment is to be purchased from HK at a cost of US$326.46. Monies totaling LKR17,825 (US$178.12) for ADSL Setup fee and ADSL Service fee for SIX months was remitted to SL on August 11.

August 01, 2006 - RFC for Phase 2 has been issued, discussing networking aspects and technology options. Please feel free to download it and post your comments/feedback on the Forum.

July 22, 2006 - With the generous contribution from Susantha Halamba, we have collected sufficient funds to complete Phase 2! We expect to roll out ADSL within the next month. For the Web Filter after evaluating commercial and open source solutions, we have decided to use the Linux, Squid proxy, and DansGuardian combination of open source software. Thereby, slashing costs for Phase 2, and eliminating recurring subscription fees.

July 07, 2006 - Phase 2 of the project has commenced with the purchasing of the NETGEAR DG632 ADSL Modem/Router Firewall at a cost of US$60.64 on eBay.

July 06, 2006 - We have signed up for a five year period with SiteGround for web hosting services at a cost of US$240 (US$4/month). This successfully concludes Phase 1 of the project and http://www.nalanda.sch.lk is launched.

July 05, 2006 - We have completed the domain registration with the LK Domain registrar, with the consent of the Principal. Staff members Mrs. Alahendra, Mrs. Gayathri Athukorala (teacher-in-charge - NCCS) and Mr. Upali Karavita were very supportive and helped to expedite the process.

June 27, 2006 - Sumith Gamage (generously contributed the registration fee!) has completed the domain registration setup for nalanda.sch.lk Activation is pending the Principal's domain request letter. Thushantha Nakandala and Sumtih are working on this matter.

June 21, 2006 - A past Nalandian, Sumith Gamage, who worked at the LK domain registry posted a bit of great news on the Forum. It seems to register the domain it will only cost us LKR500+15% VAT, a onetime fee!

June 16, 2006 - We have more or less decided to choose SiteGround as the web hosting service provider for nalanda.sch.lk accordingly the hosting charges for five years is US$240 plus an additional LKR500+15% VAT for the domain registration. 

 

So far we have collected US$875 (PayPal fees to be deducted). We will post updates as things progress along. Please keep supporting the project with your donations.

Now we are collecting donations for Phase 3! Yes, Phase1 was completed, and Phase 2 almost completed.
