Western Music Association The history of western music in Nalanda runs few decades back to the 80’s. The initial step of including western music in the school curriculum was taken in 1980 with the formation of the Senior Band. Later in 1983, the Junior Band was formed. Mrs. Lalani Navarathne should be given the credit for being instrumental in forming the two bands. Western music was officially taught as a subject in 1993 by Mrs. Aruni Rathnakeerthi and Mrs. Lalani Navarathne, since its inception. Our association has paved the way to many victories in recent history and has brought glory to Nalanda. The most important event among all our successes is the organizing of the Music Day of Nalanda College. In 2006 we organized our second Music Day at the New Elphinston Hall which was a grand success.
