Western Music Association HistoryThe history of western music in Nalanda runs few decades back to the 80's. The initial step of including western music in the school curriculum was taken in 1980 with the formation of the Senior Band. Later in 1983, the Junior Band was formed. Mrs. Lalani Navarathne should be given the credit for being instrumental in forming the two bands. Western music was officially taught as a subject in 1993 by Mrs. Aruni Rathnakeerthi and Mrs. Lalani Navarathne, since its inception. Our association has paved the way to many victories in recent history and has brought glory to Nalanda. In the year 2009 we held the inaugural music exhibition Faire De La Musique at the school language center which was a great success. This event was a help tomanifest the artistic talents of the western music students. At the same time, paths were paved to strengthen the interschool relationships by means of different projects. Formation of the youth music council together with St. Thomas' College, Ladies' College, Bishop's College is the best example to illustrate the strength of bonds. This council was built with the prime aim of helping music students in rural areas. Our association is hoping to conduct the biannual quize competition Mestro on 2010, which will be the second step since it was inaugurated in year 2008. This competition became a reputation earing event amidst of its great success in 2008. Therefore our committee is organizing the event in hope of earning much success than in previous to uplift the college name in fields of music.
